Risk Score: Impact Modifier and Boosters

Overview

The Impact Modifier and Booster are multipliers towards the Risk Score subtotal, in order for the Risk Score to more accurately reflect the risk of specific individuals.

  1. Impact Modifier
  2. Target Booster

Impact Modifier

The Impact Modifier reflects the potential damage if a given target is successfully phished or compromised. The modifier uses the target's title, department, and number of direct reports to estimate privilege level, access to sensitive data, financial authority, and reputational impact.

The Impact Modifier has a value from 0.8 to 1.4 (-20% to +40%), with the default value being 1 (0%).

The following lists corresponds the Modifier value to the level of risk:

Role / Access Level Modifier
Very Low Risk 0.8 - 0.89
Low Risk 0.9 - 0.99
Moderate Risk 1.0 - 1.09
High Risk 1.1 - 1.24
Very High Risk 1.25 - 1.4

Target Booster

The Target Booster is an optional adjustment to a target's Impact Modifier by -0.2 to +0.2. This, however, is clamped so that the final multiplier stays within 0.8 to 1.4.

For example, an Impact Modifier of 1.1 with a High Booster (+0.1), becomes 1.2.

The following details the Boost Level and its respective Modifier:

Booster Level Modifier
Very Low Risk -0.2
Low Risk -0.1
Normal (default) 0
High Risk +0.1
Very High Risk +0.2
