How to Disable Microsoft Report Buttons

Overview

This article details the steps to disable Outlook's built-in report button and Microsoft's Report Message add-in.

Please note, these two buttons are separate from the KillPhish add-in and the Report Phishing COM add-in.

Remove Outlook's Built-in Report Button

To remove this, navigate to Microsoft Defender > Settings > Email & collaboration > User reported settings (or click this link), and select "Use a non-Microsoft add-in button".

Under "Reported item destinations," select whether you want reported emails sent to your reporting mailbox, or sent to your reporting mailbox and Microsoft. Either option will work.

Then, enter the address of your reporting mailbox below. It must be an Exchange Online mailbox.

Last, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click 'Save'. The Microsoft report button will now send reported emails to the reporting mailbox entered above.

Remove Microsoft's Report Message Add-in

To remove this, navigate to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Settings > Integrated apps

Find the "Report Message" add-in. Open the add-in and click "Remove app".
